Frequently Asked Questions

What cooling features are available in the Spartan?

The Spartan is constructed with several cooling features. First, the mattress is engineered with a patented phase change molecule (PCM) surface infusion called TitanCool™to help maintain ideal skin sleep temperature. Second, all three of the top foam layers offer some type of temperature moderation. The copper flecks used in the CopperFlex™ foam, for instance, are incorporated for their highly conductive properties, drawing heat out and away from the body. Gel infusions in both the TitanFlex™ and memory foam layers ensure a temperature neutral sleep environment.

How much weight will the mattress support?

All Brooklyn Bedding mattresses are designed to support up to 950 pounds. If you or your sleep partner weigh more than 300 pounds—and prefer more substantial support—you can check out the Titan Plus Mattress by Brooklyn Bedding here.

Are your mattresses flippable?

Most Brooklyn Bedding mattresses should be rotated every 6 to 8 months but never flipped (or inverted). Our mattresses are designed with comfort layers on top and support layers on bottom, including individually encased coils in hybrid models. We also use higher quality materials that last much longer than traditional mattresses. The exceptions to the “no flip” rule are the Plank Firm and Plank Firm Luxe mattresses by Brooklyn Bedding. These mattresses are designed with varying firmness levels on either side of the mattress and can be flipped to customize your sleep experience.

What determines the firmess level in a mattress?

Several factors can contribute to a mattress’s firmness level—including foam density, transition foams and coil systems. The product specifications for each mattress, as well as unique features and benefits, can be found on the product page. Mattresses that come in soft, medium and firm level options display a firmness scale on the same product page to help you determine the right level for you. What differentiates the Spartan from the Aurora?

The core of these two mattresses is quite similar. However, the Aurora Luxe is our most advanced cooling mattress, engineered with a top panel that delivers cooling on contact; the Spartan is our top performance mattress, utilizing Far Infrared Rays technology to transform your body’s heat into waves of energy—reflected back to you through the medium of fibers, helping to enhance faster recover and promote quality of sleep. How much does the Spartan mattress weigh and what are its dimensions?

What type of foundation works best for this mattress?

Brooklyn Bedding mattresses are designed to be used on foundations with solid support with minimal to no flex. This includes slatted wood or metal foundations with slats no more than 5" apart, wood or metal box foundations, and solid wood or metal platforms. How do I select the right firmness for my mattress?

Selecting a firmness level depends on your sleep needs, common sleep position and personal preference. For an easy guide to selecting a firmness level, see our firmness scale. How does the 120-night trial period work?

If during your 120-night sleep trial (which begins once you receive your new mattress), you decide that you are not completely happy with your mattress and wish to return it, we will help dispose of your mattress and help you begin your return. 

Please allow 30 days to laps from the date of delivery before beginning the return process.

Customers are able to make use of this 120-night comfort trial on one occasion. The second occasion is not eligible for a return.

Please note: there is a $99 return fee for all mattress returns to cover the cost of picking up your mattress. We do our very best to donate, recycle, or otherwise repurpose all returned mattresses.

Do your mattresses have any safety certifications?

Every Brooklyn Bedding mattress is assembled in our Arizona facility, allowing us to ensure the highest quality every single time. Our mattresses are GREENGUARD Gold Certified and made with CertiPUR-US certified foams, which guarantees they are made without any harmful chemicals including ozone depleters, PBDE flame retardants, mercury, lead, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and have extremely low impact on indoor air quality.

"I initially bought a medium Queen size Spartan roughly 5 years ago. The mattress, be it the springs or the foam degraded to a degree that it began to give me back extreme pain. I contacted the warranty department and they sent me a completely new mattress. I switched to a firm this time. Great warranty and customer support. Brooklyn stand by their products. I recommend choosing a slightly firmer mattress, the base Spartan runs softer than typical mattresses IMHO."

I wanted to like it, but…

"Recent Brooklyn Beds don’t last, unfortunately. I have had 4 different BB mattresses in the past 13 years. The first one held up for 7 years, but the others haven’t lasted more than 4-5 years before their foam has started breaking down. They start super comfortable, but it just doesn’t stay. This Spartan Medium is the latest, and my final, example of my experience with Brooklyn. I had a Spartan Firm originally that was manufactured defectively. They kindly replaced it with a Spartan Medium. It was fantastic from purchase in 2022 through 2025, then it just became soft and uncomfortable, causing back pain. I’m replacing it this year, so it lasted 4 years. If you are good replacing your mattress every 4-5 years, go for it, as they start out great, but just be aware they don’t last."

While this might be a

"While this might be a great mattress for some, it was not for my wife and I. The firm is way too firm for us, I'd compare it to sleeping on a piece of plywood. On the second night, we had to put our Puffy mattress topper on it just so that we could get some partial relief. As soon as the "recommended 30 days" is up, we'll be returning the mattress. We've barely had any sleep the past 2-3 weeks and we're completely exhausted."
